I'm glad I have this opportunity to share with you how my family came to Cicero United Methodist Church.  My husband, Jack, had gone deer hunting for the weekend some 18 years ago and my two sons and I decided we would go "church" hunting.  We decided to check out Cicero and we have been here since.  This church and its members are like an extended family to us.  We, like many people, have been through a few difficult periods over the years, but our friends at Cicero have always been there with love, prayer and support.  Jack and I have both lost our mothers during this period and through their illnesses the members of Cicero really supported us and there is no way to ever say thank you for all they have done.

sherryb.jpgWe have been an active part of Cicero; the boys were in Sunday school and the youth group.  Jack took his part at being on committees and the Choir (his favorite thing to do) and has for the past five years been the coordinator for the youth confirmation class and their mentors.  The mentors are adults who are assigned to work with a youth who will be receiving confirmation.  This has been a blessing to not only to the youth but also to the adult mentors; many a great relationship has been started through this program.

As for myself, I jumped in with both feet.  What a great opportunity to grow in the Lord.  I have been blessed to serve on many committees and to work with wonderful, spirit filled pastors and their wives.  I can chart my own growth from year to year.  I felt a need some years ago to start a church Prayer Chain.  This has been in service for our members, our families and our community for over ten years and we have had the joy of many, many answered prayers.  I, along with the Joanna Circle (this is through the United Methodist Women's group), have attended Silent Retreats each Spring - the Saturday before Palm Sunday.  This will be our sixth year.  If you can imagine a group of women not talking for at least six hours - its great.  We now have men who have decided they would like to take time to be silent and hear what the Lord may be saying and directing them to.  It is a great way to spiritually prepare for Holy Week.

As you can see, I'm very proud to be an active member of this church family. I can never repay the people who are here or those who have moved away for the way they have blessed my life.  There is no amount of money that can buy what these people have given to me.  My only way to give back to them is by my prayers and any way I can serve them or be with them through any kind of trials that may come their way.  Jesus said, "When you do to the least of these you do unto me".  I never know who is the special one to help so I try to help them all.  Our Lord only asks us to believe in Him, to trust in Him and reach out to others for Him - to be "Jesus with skin on".

If you do not have a church family I pray you will come to visit us at Cicero.  Ask for Sherry or Mrs. B. as the youth group calls me.  I would love to meet you.

If you have never had the opportunity to receive Jesus and you Personal Savior, I would invite you to ask Him right now.  He hears all of our prayers.  Pray:  "Jesus, forgive me for I am a sinner,  I believe that you died for my sins and I ask you to receive me as your son/daughter.  Thank you, Jesus, that now I belong to you and one day I will see you in your kingdom.  Amen."  congratulations, if you have recited this prayer, please let us know so we may thank the Lord.  Remember Jesus Loves You!

Thank you for allowing me to briefly share some of my thoughts and feelings about Cicero United Methodist Church with you.  By the way, I found my church but - my husband still has not found that deer!

God Bless You All!  I hope to meet you soon at Cicero.
