This month’s spotlight is on Debbi Roach, a singer in the God’s Country Rambler’s (GCR) Band.
GCR: How did you get started with GCR?
Debbi: I’ve been a member of CUMC for 10 years. About 6 years ago our daughter Joelyn started singing with the Praise and Worship Team for the 8:45 Sunday morning service. Shortly after that my husband Tom (GCR bass player) started singing with the P&W Team. So I figured I’d make it a family affair and started singing with them too. Last fall, we were very excited about the opportunity to start the GCR service.
GCR: Why were you so interested in starting the GCR service?
Debbi: Two reason’s – First my favorite music is Country, and second, I liked the idea of the different style service – a more informal and upbeat service.
GCR: The GCR service is different, and other members have tried to describe how it is unique to the traditional service. What has the GCR service meant to you?
Debbi: For me it is like an extended family – with other members of GCR and the people who attend the service. The people are great and they help to make the service fun.
GCR: What’s been your favorite song that’s been played in the God’s Country Service?
Debbi: I like all the songs but if I had to pick my favorites it would have to be Sky Full of Angels by Reba McEntire and Amazing Grace my Chains are Gone.
GCR: Besides singing what else do you do for fun?
Debbi: I like to ride our motorcycle with my husband and crafts that involve sewing.
