Step One - A New Welcome Center

On April 7, we took the first step in creating a Welcome Center for our church. Our conference staff has offered us the use of four offices in their wing of the building. In order for this to happen, two of their staff persons will relocate to new office space.

One of the alternative office spaces will be where the Conference archives have been stored. Our Conference Archives and History Committee found a new home at Andrews United Methodist Church in North Syracuse and we offered to move the archives.

With the help of 20 church members we were able to move 5 truck loads and 3 van loads of records in about 2 hours. At Andrews, we had to carry the material up one and a half flights of stairs. Because we had a good number of people, we were able to create a "bucket brigade" up the stairs, a very efficient way to get the job done.

The following two days a small group took down the shelves in the conference center and reassembled them at Andrews. Many thanks to those who helped with this project.

In the near future, our Texas mission team will be painting the old archives room as a warm-up for the work they plan to do in Sabine Pass.
