UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

COMMITTED TO MISSION WITH WOMEN CHILDREN AND YOUTH

A GIFT TO THE WHOLE CHURCH

PURPOSE

The organized unit of the United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in global ministries of the church.

MEMBERSHIP

Any woman may become a member of the United Methodist Women. This includes women of other denominations. (It is necessary, however, that the President of the unit be a member of the United Methodist Church.) Members must be willing to accept the purpose of the UMW and be willing to participate in the work of the UMW through PRAYER, GIVING, SERVICE and through INVOLVEMENT in the total program of the Church. Any woman who cannot attend meetings regularly may still continue to be a member by doing such things as contributing funds to the unit, taking part in selected activities of the unit, or prayer for the work of the unit. Members unable to attend meetings may be able to assist with telephoning, etc.

GOALS

  • Find new ways for circles to interact as a group (special projects, exchange talents, etc.)
  • More hands-on mission projects.
  • Encourage awareness and involvement in social justice.
  • Make better use of opportunities for personal and spiritual growth - Silent Retreat, Response and New World Outlook Magazines, Mission School, etc.
  • Increase membership
