We've experienced
some "growing pains" at Cicero UMC, most recently evidenced by the challenge of
finding a suitable place for our High School Sunday School class to meet. Our church leadership has been working over
the past several years to discern the best way forward as we continue to grow.

On July 22, the Administrative Council, on the recommendation of the Facilities Committee, decided to use the church lounge for the Sr. High Sunday School class. In the interim, the furniture storage closet will be redecorated and used for a lounge. The furniture for Fellowship Hall will be moved to the back corner of the room and concealed by one of the room dividers. This will not take up much space.
The idea of installing a storage shed was delayed until other facilities changes become clear. A shed would cost several thousand dollars, would have to be raised to the level of Fellowship Hall and would have to have provision for emergency exit at the rear of the hall.
The vote of the Administrative Council was unanimous.
Two long term possibilities presently under consideration are; tear down the library building pending the results of an asbestos study and buy the Conference Center on the north side of the church. A appraisal of the building resulted in an estimated value of $400,000.
