I remember when Linda & I were just teenagers, I was given a card from the leader of our Campus Life / Youth for Christ group. It said "God is my strength and refuge – a very present help in times of trouble". I kept that card in my wallet until it was so worn it could not be read.

I'm glad I have this opportunity to share with you how my family came to Cicero United Methodist Church. My husband, Jack, had gone deer hunting for the weekend some 18 years ago and my two sons and I decided we would go "church" hunting. We decided to check out Cicero and we have been here since. This church and its members are like an extended family to us. We, like many people, have been through a few difficult periods over the years, but our friends at Cicero have always been there with love, prayer and support. Jack and I have both lost our mothers during this period and through their illnesses the members of Cicero really supported us and there is no way to ever say thank you for all they have done.

In 1978, when Sarah and David were 10 and 7 respectively, we visited Cicero United Methodist Church for the first time. The children attended Sunday School while we were in worship. During that first visit, both Sarah and David were invited to take part in the upcoming Christmas Pageant by Phyllis Chapman. Elaine and Lee were made to feel especially welcome by Faye Gregory in Fellowship Hall after the service. On the way home, the kids asked if we could come back to Cicero next Sunday. Needless to say, we did.
